At the 3rd and final SynCom CDR project workshop held from September 30 to October 1, Helmholtz scientists explored various topics, including the public perception of CDR (presented by Dr. Danny Otto, UFZ), the initiatives of the international science-based non-profit organization Bellona (Dr. Allanah Paul and Fabian Liss), and marine CDR options (Dr. Holger Brix and Dr. Klas Ove Möller, Hereon).
Additionally, the participants engaged in discussions about the future of the project consortium and the collaborative network of scientists involved in the SynCom Project over the past year.
On the evening of the first workshop day, the CDR expertise mapping (available at https://hereon.de/cdr-expertise) coordinated by Dr. Rodrigo Valencia (GERICS/Hereon) and Dr. Katharina Sielemann (Helmholtz SynCom) was launched. Together with invited stakeholders from industry, politics, and other research organizations, the project consortium addressed five relevant CDR-related questions in a ‘Dialogue and Dinner’ format.
After lunch of the second day, the participants visited NeoCarbon and talked to Co-Founder and CTO Silvain Toromanoff to learn about their Direct Air Capture technology.
