Under the title “From Science to International Policy – Insights from UN and IPCC Assessments,” four Helmholtz researchers discuss their experiences with international scientific assessment reports:
- Daniela Thrän (UFZ): Lead author of the new IPCC methodology report on Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) and Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS)
- Bryce Van Dam (Hereon): Co-lead author of the UNEP Climate Technology Progress Report 2026
- Nadine Mengis (GEOMAR): Contributor to the UNEP Climate Technology Progress Report 2026
- Louis Celliers (Hereon/GERICS): Contributor to UN processes on coastal adaptation and ocean assessment
The researchers will provide insights into the authors' selection process, the translation of scientific findings for policy-making processes, and the opportunities and challenges of participating in international assessments.
Afterward, they will be available to answer questions and engage in a group discussion. Everyone working in the Helmholtz Research Field Earth and Environment is cordially invited. We especially welcome input from other researchers who have already participated in international scientific policy advisory processes or who would like to do so in the future.
